Since my last entry in July 2011, I have got married and started a new job.
Here are some of the wedding pics:

We went to Menorca for the honeymoon which was fab, a Villa up in the mountains ...private pool, jacuzzi, barbecue....lovely.
The new job is going well but very little happening on the craft/sewing front at the moment. Last years fairs weren't much good either but so far this year they are even worse! Not much money around I guess, thankfully I seem to be selling much better on Folksy at the moment ......
http://folksy.com/shops/HeartandSewgifts
I have also been contacted by my local W.I , with a view to joining and maybe organising some craft/sewing workshops through their group, Mmmmm still undecided on that one! Not sure if i'm cut out to teach, I was thinking of maybe starting out slowly offering one to one "beginner sewing classes" wonder if anybody out there has any words of wisdom on that...please?

I have created a few new items since my last blog post,....(well it has been 7 months lol) here are a few pics of some of them:

Just a couple of pieces I did for Christmas etc, the cupcake cushion and the little "sewing swag bag".

Well time to leave now, I am in the middle of giving my Kitchen a "makeover" watch this space........Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-53983761456945774342011-08-15T02:39:00.000-07:002011-08-15T02:39:15.385-07:00New beginnings.........Well i've started my new job....and i love it. Three half days per week no stress and a great team of ladies, couldn't ask for more.
Aside from that I am getting married next Saturday, not the first time for either of us but it will be the last ;o) I am so looking forward to it, and it will be great to catch up with friends and family we've not seen for ages.(pics to follow)

I did the Vale of Glamorgan agricultural show last Wednesday, a great day too, I sold loads of items and got a lot of positive feedback from people that bought from me last year: http://www.valeofglamorganshow.co.uk/Pages/Classes.html ....Its really worth a trip to the show, its held every year on August 10th, a huge selection of......... crafts,cookery,cattle,dog shows,wood carving,birds of prey,fun rides for the children and loads of other things.
Oh well no time to sit here talking, sooo much to do....bye. x Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-1851075644699930752011-07-20T13:28:00.000-07:002011-07-20T13:28:30.688-07:00As one chapter closes.........Well after much consideration I have handed my notice in at work. After months of cronic back pain and being no closer to the cause I felt it was time to take myself in-hand! I have worked in care work (in one form or another) for almost 30 years and it has definitely taken its toll on my poor back, after various tests & x-rays we are no closer to the cause but as the doctor said "it may be just a case of mechanical back pain" which is what they call it when they don't know what the cause is!!

So, luckily for me a friend of mines daughter works at a ladieswear store (Jaeger in fact) and when a vacancy came up there she very kindly put in a good word and got me an interview, and from there I now have a part-time sales assistant job.....woohoo.
A completely new environment but one i'm sooo looking forward to.

As it is only part-time, just three days per week in fact, it will give me more time to get on with my sewing and crafting etc. So as the sayng goes .....as one door closes.......Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-25070698843527372092011-07-04T00:59:00.000-07:002011-07-04T00:59:04.773-07:00Quite and eventful weekend.....Despite having been off work with various health problems for a while, I have managed to get a little bit of sewing done....in between hospital check-ups etc.
Plus I had a fair bit of stock already made from previous craft fairs, so a friend of mine persuaded me to sell some of my items at a local 2-day craft event at Swansea Bay museum.
And its been a fab two days, the sun has been shining and not a cloud in the sky.

There was a good mix of sellers at the fair, from wood turners and silversmiths to wool spinners and aromatherapists. The next fair there is in September then again in November its well worth a visit.
A friend and I went up to see the "sewing for pleasure and embroidery" + "Hobbycraft" show/exhibition and what a lot of lovely people and fantasic ideas there were.
I've made a lovely rag doll and bought more lovely fabric and a few new patterns to try loads of different things.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mCWyWsSy-vg/TY96Dh1dH_I/AAAAAAAAAMQ/dBDeEBN4PTE/s320/020.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588819863630847986" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PaFGTO4iPdQ/TY96ZXafF5I/AAAAAAAAAMY/NcgQkcORaMA/s320/022.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588820238790498194" />

I also sorted through some of my fabric stash today and listed a few packs of "craft inspiratons" onto Folksy to see if they will sell. Just packs of fabric pieces matching buttons and ribbons, ideal for card making, collage etc. and i've also made a bit of room for my new fabric now!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kvpjZsIEqoE/TY97NorBmeI/AAAAAAAAAMg/LCNHc1UjkGs/s200/010.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588821136776468962" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AA6Qu6FGey4/TY97nMkdHoI/AAAAAAAAAMo/JbvN20XHPKg/s200/013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588821575909318274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ku9pIxjtSF0/TY97-F8GcUI/AAAAAAAAAMw/OPw9uZBGAK8/s200/017.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588821969266438466" />

And i've had an email today saying the "cutting table" I ordered on 16th March has been posted, so hopefully should be here this week ;o))

Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-37500955167039848942011-03-17T13:32:00.000-07:002011-03-17T13:49:04.611-07:00Whats been happening....I'm all well again, back in work too. A friend of mine has just opened a little shop within a local garden centre, selling various gifts including candles, soaps, handmade cards and.......my doorstops and cushions etc. Woohoo, another little outlet for my crafts and a step closer to my perfect life!
I have done a few more doorstops over the past week or so but don't seem to have time to "play" and just experiment with some new ideas. Anyway here are a few pics of the latest batch:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JF3bzCn1160/TYJyCTO7OuI/AAAAAAAAAL4/76yfRBQrjlw/s320/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5585151871741016802" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 268px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zd9VvZ2M8dQ/TYJymKKIZ1I/AAAAAAAAAMA/JQJPjBYDvvE/s320/n4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5585152487780280146" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wAoiTIh2b7Q/TYJzVPfbfiI/AAAAAAAAAMI/rpp2Cv-RSZc/s320/052.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5585153296665640482" />Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-80835947764142542042011-03-08T01:08:00.000-08:002011-03-08T01:09:19.074-08:00So much inspiration here...........Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-49812118023810867672011-03-07T13:18:00.000-08:002011-03-08T01:48:45.786-08:00Update.....Seems ages since i,ve updated my blog, where do I start Mmmmmm
Well on the 19th of February we went away for a week, down to a little converted chapel in the Forest of Dean. It was sooo relaxing, right on the edge of the forest, really peaceful....

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a2cliaBwwKg/TXVMdpXbVjI/AAAAAAAAALw/4nm2fRN3Yu0/s320/73692_16.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581451385399629362" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-brE2XGQa7Ic/TXVMdbIsoBI/AAAAAAAAALo/arXcM8OP7dM/s320/73692_2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581451381579751442" />

We came home on the 26th, I went back to work on the 27th for 2 days and have been ill ever since! I've somehow managed to pick up a viral infection in my ear which has led to something called "Labrynthitus" which has turned out to be an absolute nightmare, with severe bouts of dizziness etc.
On a more positive note, a friend of mine as opened a little gift shop within the local garden centre and asked if I would like to sell some of my wares there. Of course I jumped at the chance to have another outlet to sell my doorstops etc. at.
The only problem I have now is getting myself well enough to get back on the sewing machine.......

Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-91897378221686809852011-02-15T06:32:00.000-08:002011-02-15T06:32:24.745-08:00HEART and SEW blogspot........the secret life of a sewing addict!: Going Global......HEART and SEW blogspot........the secret life of a sewing addict!: Going Global......Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-90948407837210051662011-02-15T06:24:00.000-08:002011-02-15T06:31:26.571-08:00Going Global......I have received my first order from an international buyer.....woohoo! And it wasn't for just one item....it was for four of my character "doorstops".
The lady seen them on my "Etsy" shop and asked if I could send them minus the "weighted" bottoms (to cut down on postage costs). I was obviously glad to oblige if it meant a sale.....
So I can now say my little sewing empire has gone global....lol.Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-83279061684333253822011-02-03T05:16:00.000-08:002011-02-03T05:22:19.997-08:00Woo Hoo for "Folksy".....Well its been a very lean time for selling since Christmas, I guess now is not the time to buy handcrafted items and gifts! So all I can say is "thank goodness for Folksy, over the weekend I've had quite a few sales....some of the stock was left from the Christmas fairs etc.
I think maybe folksy is the way forward for me to sell my crafts, especially with having to work in my "proper" job and therefore unable to attend as many fairs as i'd like.
Maybe its time to find my creative mojo and start creating some ideas ready for the summer months......;o)Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-29521393868616423282011-01-16T03:04:00.000-08:002011-01-16T03:23:20.614-08:00Where's my creativity gone......?I have tried and tried but I can't seem to find it anywhere.....my creativity that is!
I vaguely remember feeling the same way last year around this time, January is such a long, dark and wet month. I've sat for hours looking through "arty/crafty" books, I've scoured the Internet looking for inspiration, and although there is so much talent and creativity out there.....nothing seems to be giving me that kick up the backside I need!
It may be because the craft fairs etc. don't really get going until around April or May, and the thought that there is no urgency to create for a particular venue or date is making me lazy.
I've cleaned my sewing room....twice, I've folded then re-folded my fabrics, colour coded my cottons, labeled everything in sight so I can put my hands on anything instantly, put small cup hooks up to hang my ever increasing collection of scissors...but still no inspiration!! I had a craft fair almost every week through November & December, although a few were cut short due to the weather/snow....and I also worked all over Christmas and New Year.

I'm now taking a few weeks out to plan my strategy for the coming months. Unfortunately due to my "proper job" rota, I am unable to attend as many craft fairs as i'd like!!!
I did sell quite a lot of things on "Folksy" & "Etsy" over the Christmas period so I am going to concentrate on both of those, i'm also thinking about creating my own website.....????
I also need time to play & create.....some new thoughts, ideas and sketch's i've had over the past few weeks, thank goodness for my ideas/sketch book.

My only new years resolution, is to keep my blog up-to-date!!!
So here's to another productive year ahead........hopefullyHeart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-2519860569713983452010-08-14T10:24:00.000-07:002010-08-29T10:58:08.648-07:00The Vale of Glamorgan show.........I've not updated my blog for ages.....I have been sooo busy preparing for the "Vale of Glamorgan agricultural show" on the 13th of August, and it was fab. The weather stayed warm & sunny so the show ground wasn't too muddy.
The craft fair was held in a very large marquee which held about 60+ tables, the turnover was very good throughout the day and my patchwork cushions and animal doorstops went down a treat. I also got a lot of positive feedback and several people wanted my contact details to, hopefully place further orders.I also got invited back to take part in the show again next year, which was nice. The showground itself had everything you'd expect from an agricultural show....tractors, cattle, birds of prey, women's guild cake tent!

I didn't get to take many pics as I was so busy selling, chatting to other crafters and making plans for future fairs.It was a good thing I took my fiance Darren, with me though....I needed lots of help carrying all my wares into the marquee and help with the selling too. Did manage to get a few snaps of my table though:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_i1W-adD36HQ/THqYs8e24MI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/6MdyVRrLY8Q/s320/P1100126%5B1%5D.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5510884991958442178" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_i1W-adD36HQ/THqZziYtUEI/AAAAAAAAAKA/yhAO-wrIS1g/s320/P1100117%5B1%5D.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5510886204724039746" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_i1W-adD36HQ/THqaWS3NazI/AAAAAAAAAKI/oWredIyJdgM/s320/P1100118%5B1%5D.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5510886801852427058" />

The craft fairs myself & a friend have been organising have arrived....the first one is this coming Saturday 4th of September 2010, at Cowbridge town hall in the Vale of Glamorgan, fingers crossed it goes ok. We've tried to think of everything including free tea & coffee for all sellers. We have been inundated with applications for all the fairs so much so that we've set up a reserve list. The one thing we have noticed is there is no shortage of jewellery and card makers out there,....we could have filled the hall three times over with just jewellery and cards!!!
We have managed to get quite a cross section of crafter booked, from woodturners and silk dyeing to cupcakes, mannequin painters and textile artists.....so there will hopefully be something for everyone. And everything is "handcrafted" in Wales by the sellers, which is something we strived to achieve.Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-22858262408480168652010-07-07T11:57:00.000-07:002010-07-07T12:11:04.784-07:00Craft fairs.....A friend and myself decided a few weeks ago, that we would try to organise a few craft fairs before Christmas.
Well we found a venue and went ahead and booked the 1st Saturday of Sept, Oct, Nov & Dec to hold a craft fair. Next we needed to advertise for sellers to take part, so I contacted various craft websites and managed to get our info onto at least 3 of them.

So we just sat back and waited, well my friend didn't.....she went to France for a month, so I was left holding the fort.
Thankfully the advertising has payed off, I have been inundated with emails and phone calls over the past two weeks....I've even had to turn some people down ;o(
We wanted to keep the "craft fairs" strictly that...."craft" fairs. With predominantly "handcrafted" items.
I am really excited about the bookings that we have taken, there are such a lot of talented people out there, we have been spoilt for choice.
All four fairs are almost fully booked already......hopefully next year we will try and get a bigger venue to cater for all wonderful artists/crafters out there.Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-33293893520106306672010-07-02T07:50:00.000-07:002010-07-02T08:04:48.912-07:00Heart and SewWell it's been a very busy day again! I worked in my payed job this morning then came home and sat by the sewing machine for 4 hours until it was time to go back to work.....again!
I've also been working on my branding for a few weeks but, I think i've actually got there now.....yay. I wanted a more uniform look to my craft fair things, something that kind of said a little bit about me and my work. So this is my new "logo" ....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 202px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_i1W-adD36HQ/TC3-5ovM0CI/AAAAAAAAAJg/jAvFsdG-xOU/s320/newbanner+copy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489323786975891490" />

I do try to put my "all" into the items I make, and my partner Darren says "that I put my heart and soul into all my creations" so the name kind of evolved really. Oh well off to work I go........Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-24458167240338058012010-06-27T23:08:00.000-07:002010-06-27T23:17:46.035-07:00Monday Monday...Well its here again...the dreaded Monday! I've got quite a lot to do this week, mostly involving sewing etc (got a nice order to finish) and want to try and find time to get my hair cut too! Oh well onwards and upwards.....Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-46301971113966800882010-06-26T23:42:00.000-07:002010-06-27T08:46:16.066-07:00What a busy one................Well its been another busy weekend....the weather has been sooo hot I couldn't even sit out the garden for very long!
So I have been really busy cutting out loads of pieces ready to sew, i've only got one craft fair in July so hopefully will get lots of things ready for the August fairs.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_i1W-adD36HQ/TCc2z1OyrnI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/fl2Yn5jyn-A/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487414935064587890" />

The main one i'm attending is:

http://www.valeofglamorganshow.co.uk/

It has over 200 stalls and 1000+ visitors, so it should be a good day...hopefully.
Also doing a fair at Llantwit Major, not done it before so it will be an experience.

I am also considering taking part in the "Cowbridge food festival" in October, its a 2 day event which will be quite hard going AND I will need a lot of stock.....but... its another outlet and a step closer to my dream of working full-time for myself!
Also had my 6 year old grandson over for the night, lastnight....he was a pageboy at a wedding yesterday, so was tottally shattered when he got here.
He looked absolutely georgous in his kilt etc, ......pics to follow.Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-45096305249803853312010-06-13T22:41:00.000-07:002010-06-25T00:47:13.139-07:00As busy as a busy thing.....Well its been a busy couple of weeks with fairs etc, so I need to build my stock right up.
I think I definetly need to sort out my time managment issues 1st though! I seem to be taking one step forward and three steps back at the moment, cut something out, then downstairs to iron & interface, back upstairs to sew it, back downstairs to stuff it, back upstairs......i'm sure you get the point! so I spent most of yesterday (in between payed work shifts) cutting out, well.....everything!!!

My plan is to get a "load" of things cut out ready so i'm not up and down stairs like an idiot!
I've also been racking my brains to think of some "new" things to sew for the coming fairs.....had a few disasters along the way but now have two new items which i'm very pleased with. I probably won't showcase them until the big show in August....
My next small fair isn't until the 24th of June so i've got a week or so to go yet!

Well, that week or so I mentioned above.......just came & went!!!!
I did the craft fair yesterday and it was one of my best to date ;o)
I did showcase some of my "new" products and they were a definite hit, so I need to re-stock again for the next fair and i've got loads of new ideas again.......my mind is constantly ticking over with "creativeness" at the moment!
One of my new products.........

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_i1W-adD36HQ/TCRcInh7Y7I/AAAAAAAAAJA/9o-BrNa7rfQ/s320/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5486611549164102578" />

The table set-up at the fair yesterday.........

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_i1W-adD36HQ/TCRejgQk23I/AAAAAAAAAJI/mBk9-Jd1MBo/s320/007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5486614210091998066" />

Oh well its back to the sewing machine for me then......;o)Heart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493023879393451528.post-72220969367371257762010-06-07T22:57:00.000-07:002010-06-08T02:49:14.964-07:00Pro-activity pays.................Just a quick update on my busy schedule.......
Firstly I have managed to book a hall to run regular craft fairs between now and christmas (well its a joint effort with a friend).It also means less financial risk for both, with two of us organising it!
I have decided to take up the business offer I recieved two weeks ago....after the last fair I did....and i,ve started to build up my stock ready for the Agricultural show i've been invited to take part in, in August.
I think that soon I will need to register as a business if the orders are going to keep coming.....fingers crossed xHeart & Sewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771032425747252051noreply@blogger.com1
